Niantic Village is historical, it is cultural and it is small. Is there anything fun to do in this small village with less than 2 square miles to spare and less than 3,200 people? Yes, there is! Here are some enjoyable things to do in the village of Niantic.

First, determine if you want to get the family out for some fun and wholesome outdoor exercise. You can swim, fish or go boating in several parts of the village, including the Hole-in-the-Wall Beach, the Niantic Bay Boardwalk, McCook's Point Park, Black Hawk Beach and the Rocky Neck State Park. There are even more beaches in the area, though they are reserved for private residents. If you like hiking, then check out the Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve or the Rocky Neck State Park. For a water-bound adventure, look up Charter Fishing Boats at Black Hawk Beach or try some clamming adventures at the Niantic Bay or the Niantic River. If you want to relax with some kayaking fun, go to the Gorton Pond or Pattagansett Lake.

When it’s time to get serious and give some thought to history, try the historical village of Niantic attractions like the Thomas Lee House or the Smith-Harris House. Of course, it’s hard to concentrate on history when you have so much golfing temptation all around you. Whether you are an experienced golfer or a novice, there are plenty of good times at the Cedar Ridge Golf Course in East Lyme.

Lastly, it’s time to talk about events in the village of Niantic. You might not think a small village would have that much going on. However, you might be surprised to learn that over 15 events were scheduled for 2010. Among the more memorable events included were the Touch a Truck show for children, the Memorial Day Parade, the Niantic Bay 10K Road Race, the Celebrate East Lyme Festival, the 6th Annual Bargains by the Bay and the Niantic Village Halloween Parade.
